I love the idea of a sleeping porch. We have a big yellow and white striped awning that makes our patio a perfect spot for napping on a hot day. The warm air and the cool breeze make it so refreshing. I think I should get a hammock or at least put our inflatable mattress out there. It makes me think of my room as a kid – I remember waking up from naps and looking out at the intricate pattern of branches outside my window. I would lie there and listen to the birds and find pictures in the branches like finding pictures in the clouds. And the breeze would blow over my body – cooling me off after a sweaty nap.

Of course Bea didn’t actually take a nap – she just played at napping – dang.

That quilt came from Grandma Dice – her own style of crazy quilt. The quilt top was in a big bunch of fabric scraps that she gave me ages ago – like when I was in junior high probably. I finally put a back on it and bound it with a happy flower fabric last summer. Now we call it our summer quilt. It has lots of interesting patterns that we can look at and talk about before we fall asleep under it.
