This chapter is all about up north Michigan. Grandma and Grandpa C. rented a house right on Lake Huron near Tawas. When we arrived a big storm was brewing, but Bea still insisted on going for a swim in the big waves. And it did feel really good being out there in the warm water and cold air.

The storm lasted for a good two or three days but really I didn’t mind. The sound of the wind and the waves at night was wonderful – I slept like a happy log. We had a bit of a break in the rain one morning so we went out and enjoyed a walk along the beach.

Here’s one of the sweet, soft, old quilts that were on the beds in the room that Claire and Bea shared.

The rain continued… we had to go to this cute playground even if it was very wet.

Ah – finally the sun came out and we had to put sun block on.

We went for a walk in the woods – I was loving that familiar fern filled forest smell.

The girls were enjoying finding toads.

Time to enjoy some Americana at the Ice Cream place in Tawas. Bea had Superman ice cream – you can’t find that in Switzerland.

On our last day the girls ate their pancakes outside. The night before we had a fire on the beach and made s’mores. I think the girls were in heaven. Bea kept saying that she didn’t want to leave – I didn’t either.
