We resumed the habit of hiking over the weekend. We’re doing as the Swiss do. You get on a train and get close to the mountains. Then you get yourself up a mountain (maybe on a cable car). Then you hike around and look at the view. Then you stop at a mountain-top restaurant for a treat. We went to place called Stoos. It’s always a little difficult with Brian not wanting to go in too many high up dangling boxes. This time we went up a funicular, which is a little easier on poor Brian. Then instead of taking the chairlift to the top of the mountain we just hiked most of the way up. Of course once Bea saw that there was a chair lift she couldn’t stop bugging us. She really wanted to go on it. So the girls and I went down on the chair lift and Brian ran down the mountain to meet at the top of the funicular. He’s generally happy to run down mountains.
Anyway – it was a lovely hike. It made me want to sing songs from The Sound of Music. Here are some photos:

Cow gate:

That funny looking building is the chair lift station:

The charm of the restaurant is hearing the tinkling of the cowbells while you are eating cheese and cream that those very cows made. And oh my, that dessert of meringues and cream was tasty! The cream was nearly butter.

There’s the funicular – it’s a red speck in the middle:
