I’ve had a quiet week. I’ve made time to work on my quilt. I’ve been thinking how I want to quilt this quilt. I looked at the last quilt I made and I liked how I was able to stitch along the shapes of the patchwork without having to transfer a design for the quilting. I also want the design to be a little more complex and to reference the garden aspect of this quilt (the pattern is called checkered garden). So I stayed up (too) late one night and worked out a design that’s made up of curved lines within each 2.25″ square. The curved lines form leaf or petal shapes and all together they make medallion-like shapes that are sort of flowery. I also want to use an allover flower pattern for the backing.

Here is my idea for the quilting lines:

Or is that too complex? I could also just make leaf shapes in each square like this quilt (from the Film in the Fridge blog):

Here’s the quilt I made last year – I just made diagonal criss-cross quilting lines:

And here are some plants that are making me happy on dreary days. I’ve started several avocado seeds and they are starting to sprout spindly stems with leaves. You can see them in the back – I think they like the warmth of the radiators.
