Yesterday we went to the Chicago Botanic Garden. Bea was a little grumpy until I gave her a snack and took her to the Model Railroad Garden. I don’t know why I didn’t take her there before. I was thinking she would be too young to enjoy it, but she loved it. One of her first words was train so I should have known she’d have a fantastic time. It’s a great exhibit of model trains set in a mini landscape of plants and models of America’s famous sites. There’s a mini White House, San Francisco, Main Street, Old Faithfull, Hollywood, etc. The whole exhibit is really well done with train sounds and lots of tracs looping all around you – they even run over your head on little bridges. The nice old men who run the place actually have a pretty big job keeping all the trains and tracks maintained. They walk around in their conductor hats and one had suspenders with railroad track printed on them – very charming. Bea’s pointer finger certainly got a work out.
