I haven’t been to the Chicago Botanic Garden lately.

So it felt good to go last week. I had a nice walk through the prairie, a slow walk. Pausing to look closely at all the details.

There were butterflies and every kind of bee and two toads and so much bird song. The redwing blackbirds have thankfully been replaced by gold finches. And I was finally able to notice that the compass plant does arrange its leaves in a mostly north and south direction.

There are these big bubbles throughout the gardens this summer but I head straight for the prairie. I don’t need gimmicks – the beauty of nature is far more interesting to me.
